Nehmat has been an awardee of the Dhirubhai Ambani Reliance Trust Scholarship for the year 2015-2019. She is an artist with a practice that ranges across different mediums like ceramic, glass, painting, animation, installation, found materials and waste materials. She always goes back to her archive of explorations and experiments to consistently incorporate it in newer works and ways. While doing her bachelors she started studying animal and human anatomy, sketch books and canvas rolls full of sketches lead her to visualise animal like forms everywhere from splashes of water colour to water seepage on the wall. She builds narratives by visualising forms out of non recognisable materials. This process takes her to an alternate dystopia fantasy world where she builds narratives by associations from one to another. Her work mostly brings experience of small pleasures that go unnoticed in our daily hustles. As a part of some of the installation projects that she took up with Hotel Le Meridien, Delhi inculcated the desire to look at Design as an area of interest. Studying, reviving and supporting the local crafts of India like the art of Charpoy Weaving and Glass Bead Making to create Experiential Christmas Trees Instillations. Further looking to close the loop and work towards building circular economies within her design practice she created a furniture line out of the Christmas Installation which was exhibited at the India Design at the NSIC Ground, Okhla, Delhi and at the Cafe@4, Le Meridien. This lead her to take up Design for her Master’s Degree. Presently, She is studying at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India, pursuing Industrial Design, specialising in Ceramic and Glass Design. She was awarded the Ford Foundation Scholarship for working towards the Sustainability Developmental Goals of 2030 of the United Nations in the area of Up-Cycling Waste glass. She facilitates interactive and engaging workshops to develop a culture of up-cycling waste glass to create treasure from trash. She is committed to explore, motivated to create and always strives to learn.
